Tôi thích và dùng Peter's laws(1) với những câu làm cho mình lúc nào cũng thấy vươn lên. Như: "If anything can go wrong, fix it!" (những gì có thể hư hỏng, hãy sửa nó lại). Và nhất là:
"When given a choice, take both"
"Start at the top and work your way up"
...

Tương phản với Murphy's laws(2) là những câu bi quan, thường xẩy ra và được coi là lẽ đương nhiên. Tỉ dụ như: "If anything can go wrong, it will" (những gì có thể hư hỏng, sẽ hư hỏng)

(1) Peter's Laws

  • If anything can go wrong, Fix it! (To hell with Murphy!)
  • When given a choice -- Take both!
  • Multiple projects lead to multiple successes.
  • Start at the top and work your way up.
  • Do it by the book...but be the author!
  • When forced to compromise, ask for more.
  • If you can't beat them, join them, and then beat them.
  • If it's worth doing, it's got to be done right now.
  • If you can't win, change the rules.
  • If you can't change the rules, ignore them.
  • When faced without a challenge, make one.
  • "No" simply means begin again at the next highest level.
  • Don't walk when you can run.
  • Bureaucracy is a challenge to the be conquered with a righteous attitude, an intolerance for stupidity, and bulldozer when necessary.
  • When in doubt: THINK!
  • Patience is a virtue but persistence to the point of success is a blessing.
  • The squeaky wheel gets replaced.
  • The faster you move, the slower time passes, the longer you live.

(2) Murphy's laws

  • If anything can go wrong, it will
  • If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong
  • If anything just cannot go wrong, it will anyway
  • If you perceive that there are four possible ways in which something can go wrong, and circumvent these, then a fifth way, unprepared for, will promptly develop
  • Left to themselves, things tend to go from bad to worse
  • If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something
  • Nature always sides with the hidden flaw
  • Mother nature is a bitch
